ABSTRACT

During the pandemic, instruction moved online, and physical formats of media were unable to be used. This presented the opportunity to undertake a quantitative study on the use of streaming videos, particularly in the sciences, at Colorado College. The authors used vendor statistics for the last 5 years (2016–2017 to 2020–2021) and reviewed the time period of March–February, which is what the authors refer to as the covid year. By 2021, streaming videos were being used 25 times more than in 2016, and science videos were being streamed 26 times as much.

ABSTRACT

In order to determine the trend of studies on the factors that generate the consumption of paid video streaming platforms during the COVID-19 pandemic, a systematic review of scientific literature was conducted. To search for the information, the Scopus database and the Concytec repository, Alicia, were consulted. The keywords "streaming”, "platform”, "media”, "COVID-19”, "Netflix”, "video” and "pandemic” were used. Sources were located in three languages. The data analysis allowed dividing the information into five categories: background on the positioning of streaming platforms, audience behaviour, consumption drivers, cases related to Netflix and platforms in times of confinement. It is concluded that during the pandemic, people mutated their mode of digital consumption, becoming more dependent, which has been capitalised on by streaming platforms that, taking advantage of habits, adaptability, and consumption trends, and responding with innovation, have increased users, in a distribution of the sector in which Netflix, thanks to its own strategies, is the leader. These reviewed factors move a consumer marketplace uphill, creating loyalty among previous audiences and tempting new ones, which could even overcome the pandemic period. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

ABSTRACT

The detection of temporal abnormal patterns over streaming data is challenging due to volatile data properties and lacking real-time labels. The abnormal patterns are usually hidden in the temporal context, which can not be detected by evaluating single points. Furthermore, the normal state evolves over time due to concept drift. A single model does not fit all data over time. Autoencoders are recently applied for unsupervised anomaly detection. However, they usually get expired and invalid after distributional drifts in the data stream. In this paper, we propose an autoencoder-based approach (STAD) for anomaly detection under concept drift. In particular, we use a state-transition-based model to map different data distributions in each period of the data stream into states, thereby addressing the model adaptation problem in an interpretable way. We empirically demonstrate the state transition process and evaluate the anomaly detection performance on the Covid-19 dataset of Germany. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors. ABSTRACT

Consisting of a variety of required components-including but not limited to quality risk assessments, a written Quality Risk Management Plan, and strategic, centralized data reviews-the revision underscores the importance of a robust RBQM framework to ensure clinical trial execution in compliance with GCP. In this article, we will examine the overall value of ICH E6 (R2) to sponsors, as well as how COVID-19 has and will continue to influence sponsors' consideration of risk-based monitoring as a key component of clinical trial operations. [...]if they have not proactively identified key data and processes that could bring potential risk, they run the danger of getting "lost in the weeds" and overlooking risk factors that later breached tolerance limits and resulted in issues that had some level of impact on the study and its results. At Rho, we consider a robust RBQM framework to include dedicated quality risk managers, RBQM templates to assist with creating the plans required by ICH E6 (R2), a strategic approach to data review, among other components.

ABSTRACT

PurposeThis study investigates how customer experience mediates the relationship between online innovation and repurchase intention in the hotel industry in Ghana.Design/methodology/approachData was collected from 167 clients from a two-star hotel in Accra, the capital city of Ghana. Structural equation modelling was used to analyse the relationship between the variables.FindingsResults from the analysis indicate that online innovation positively leads to higher repurchase intentions and better customer experience, affirming that customer experience leads to repurchase intentions. Thus, while online innovation leads to repurchase intentions, the strength of this repurchase intention depends on customer experience. Therefore, customer experience mediates the relationship between online innovation and repurchase intention in the hotel industry.Research limitations/implicationsThis study addressed only the customer's point of view;future studies could investigate the subject from the managers and other stakeholders' point of view to get a holistic view. Also, the sample size could be improved, and the study could be conducted in other African countries for comparison purposes.Practical implicationsThe study shows that online innovation does not automatically lead to increased positive repurchase intention. Hotel managers must, therefore, enforce good customer experience for better profitability.Originality/valueAs far as the researchers know, limited studies have been conducted into how customer experience mediates online innovation and repurchase intention in the hotel industry in Ghana using structural equation modelling. This makes this research unique in Ghana. This study makes an original contribution by measuring the real effect of innovation on repurchase intentions in the hotel industry in Ghana.

ABSTRACT

This article analyses the statistical reporting of UK Music, the umbrella organization that provides a collective voice for British music industry trade bodies. It documents changes in methodology from the organization's earliest reports, which provide financial data for each industry sector and use the prosperity of the business as a platform from which to lobby, to the reports for the years of the COVID-19 pandemic, which turn away sectoral information to argue that the industry is an ecosystem and music is beneficial for national well-being. In the process, UK Music submerges evidence that record companies and music publishers fared well during the pandemic while music creators and live music industry workers suffered greatly. As well as uncovering this information, this article considers why it has been neglected. It has enabled UK Music to lobby for actions that work across the industry and sidestep arguments that music creators should receive a greater share of remuneration. It has also helped to keep UK Music intact.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: Home-based workouts via fitness YouTube channels have become more popular during the pandemic era. However, few studies have examined the role of social media personae related to intention to exercise. The purpose of this study was to investigate the structural relationships between fitness YouTuber attributes: perceived physical attractiveness (PPA), perceived social attractiveness (PSA), perceived similarity (PS), parasocial relationships (PSRs), wishful identification (WI), physical outcome expectations (POEs), and continuous intention to work out with fitness YouTubers (CIWFY). Design/methodology/approach: This study considered fitness YouTube channel viewers as the unit of analysis. An online survey was conducted to empirically develop and test the research model using structural equation modeling (SEM). Findings: The SEM empirical findings revealed that the PSRs were significantly influenced by PSA, PPA, and PS. Also, WI was significantly affected by PPA and PS. Furthermore, POEs were significantly impacted by PPA and PSRs. POEs affected the CIWFY. Lastly, PSRs and POEs mediated the influence of PSA and PPA on the CIWFY. Originality/value: The psychological impacts of exercising to online fitness videos in the era of COVID-19, with its untact (no contact) social norms is timely. The study model demonstrated the fitness YouTube viewers' cognitive path from perceptions toward fitness YouTubers' attributes to behavioral intention. To be specific, the current study demonstrated how three attribution types (i.e. PPA, PSA, and PS) of fitness YouTubers affect viewers' PSRs and WI with fitness YouTubers, along with POEs and CIWFY. Along with health practitioners, fitness YouTubers who want to captivate viewers on their channels might need to consider self-attributes from their viewers' standpoint and should build psychological bonding with viewers. ABSTRACT

In this fourth industrial revolution of technologies, video conferencing applications are now utilized for online business meetings, online classes, and scientific and experimental purposes engaged in a virtual meeting room due to rigorous cases of coronavirus disease 2019. Several difficulties and technical disruptions were encountered in using the said apps, especially during online classes and business conferences. In connection thereto, this Optimization and Innovative Utilization of Virtual Conferencing Applications dissertation were developed to have a new basis for a technological management approach based on the most commonly used video conferencing applications. The encountered problems, considered factors, and optimization processes were also determined. Descriptive quantitative research was used as methodology, and initial closed-ended questionnaires, evaluation forms with a 4-point Likert scale, interviews, consultations, and testing were the instruments and sources of data. Three hundred one (301) respondents were randomly selected around the Province of Laguna, Philippines, composed of 203 respondents from schools, 78 respondents from companies, and 20 professional evaluators. The developed strategic model was evaluated using 6 out of 8 general characteristics of the ISO/IEC 25010: 2011 system quality model, which includes usability, reliability, performance efficiency, maintainability, compatibility, and security. All data gathered were validated as well as the statistical treatments such as percentage, weighted and composite means, and t-test, which was used to determine the significant difference between the normal and optimized utilization of video conferencing applications. Obtained results revealed that utilizing the developed strategic model was significantly more acceptable and effective rather than the normal utilization of the common apps. The teachers and students and as well as the workers of business enterprises are the beneficiaries of this study to optimize and utilize the said applications for better learning and optimal workflow © 2006-2023 Asian Research Publishing Network (ARPN). ABSTRACT

In the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, many commentators on American life predicted that people "would never” be able to do a variety of social activities again, even post-pandemic. Among these activities was going to movie theaters. Because theaters were already competing for audiences with the growing number of streaming services, and so many viewers migrated to streaming once lockdowns began, some observers argued that movie theaters would not survive the pandemic. This chapter argues that theaters will in fact survive, for two reasons: the history of the American film industry, including theatrical distribution, is a history of adaptation to threats;and human sociability will ensure that people will still go out to movies even when they can watch them at home. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022.

ABSTRACT

Starting from Cable connections to various options in satellite TV brands, the transition paved the way gradually for free content on applications like YouTube, which further led to the demand for quality content on OTT platforms. Over-the- Top or OTT is the abbreviation for "over-the-top” which is a new age streaming of films and TV series over the web without the need for traditional cable, or satellite pay-TV providers;the consumers can stream across multiple gadgets according to our time convenience. Beginning in the late 90s, the early 2000s marked the era of Television streaming in India. The first OTT application launched in India was BigFix, which changed the course of content consumption in our country. The Television industry once driven by cable and satellite operators has transitioned into a consumer-driven domain. Unlike TV, which requires a cable connection or an antenna, OTT material is delivered directly over Online platforms and paid for directly by viewers. The implications are that the consumers may get OTT services including video, voice, messaging and audio services, at any time and from any location, which serves to be a significant advantage over traditional TV programming. In this paper, we focus on how this paradigm change took place and what impact it has created, especially since the pandemic. © 2023 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

In March 2020, live music venues were shuttered because of the COVID-19 pandemic. To gauge the mood and opinions of persons involved in aspects of live performance, a questionnaire was developed. Responses from 19 individuals representing many aspects of the live music portion of the industry were analyzed. These versatile professionals have been resilient during the pandemic. Time not spent traveling on the tour circuit gave some the chance to pursue non-musical interests, foster aspects of music that could be done from home, provided time for reflection and songwriting, and allowed some to complete albums. All of the musicians expressed sympathy for the tribulations experienced by ancillary personnel vital to the operation of live venues and touring. They also expressed sympathy for new musical acts that depended on live performance for audience exposure. The pandemic spawned new musical innovations to pique the interest of the music-consuming public such as subscriptions to view live streaming of performances, and musicians reaching out directly to fans using online services. Such innovations have partially offset some of the revenue lost from being unable to tour and may continue when the pandemic is finally over. Three innovative musical performances during the COVID-19 period are highlighted. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022.

ABSTRACT

PurposeAs of December 2021, WeChat had more than 1.2 billion active users worldwide, making it the most active online social media in mainland China. The term social commerce is used to describe new online sales through a mix of social networks and/or peer-to-peer communication or marketing strategies in terms of allowing consumers to satisfy their shopping behaviour through online social media. Thus, given the numerous active users, the development of online social media and social commerce on WeChat is a critical issue of internet research.Design/methodology/approachThis empirical study takes WeChat as the online social media research object. Questionnaires for WeChat users in China were designed and distributed. All items are designed as nominal and ordinal scales (not Likert scale). The obtained data was put into a relational database (N = 2,342), and different meaningful patterns and rules were examined through data mining analytics, including clustering analysis and association rules, to explore the role of WeChat in the development of online social media and social commerce.FindingsPractical implications are presented according to the research findings of meaningful patterns and rules. In addition, alternatives to WeChat in terms of further development are also proposed according to the investigation findings of WeChat users' behaviour and preferences in China.Originality/valueThis study concludes that online social media, such as WeChat, will be able to transcend the current development pattern of most online social media and make good use of investigating users' behaviour and preferences, not only to stimulate the interaction of users in the social network, but also to create social commerce value in social sciences.

ABSTRACT

This article focuses on the mediatization of funeral practices and customer relations in a business with human care and contact at its centre: the funeral industry. We analyse the impact of Covid-19 on the use of digital media in a comparative study of the deathcare sector in Australia and Denmark. Using surveys within the national funeral industries, qualitative interviews with funeral directors, and news media archives for 2020-2021, we identify four areas of mediatization: adaptations of specific technologies;interactions with the bereaved;transformations of funeral rites;and communications beyond the funeral service. In conclusion, we suggest that the mediatization process is a negotiation of, on the one hand, the need and growing demand for digital media into a traditions-bound business, and on the other hand, the funeral directors' wish to care for the bereaved families through tactile, in-person relationships and emotional support. © 2023 The Author(s).

ABSTRACT

The pedagogical appeal of using film in higher education, while not new, has undeniably grown since the COVID-19 pandemic necessitated remote teaching for health and safety reasons. This dramatic rise in streaming video requests is challenging for academic libraries of all sizes. Yet, smaller- and medium-sized institutions have personnel who already juggle multiple roles and responsibilities, resulting in chaos and the need for new workflows. This article will reflect on the past 24 months of managing streaming video at the University of San Diego's Copley Library, comparing the remote instruction period to the hybrid teaching that followed.

ABSTRACT

After the outbreak of COVID-19, E-commerce lives streaming (ELS) has become popular as a marketing tool to reduce spatial restrictions and control the spread. However, there are concerns about the hesitance to pay after purchasing through ELS. This study examined the psychological factors from a consumer's perspective on reluctance to pay at the end of a hotel reservation through ELS. The conceptual framework of the study integrates the concepts of the stimulus-organism-response (SOR) framework in conjunction with the Five-Factor Model (Big Five). Data were collected from 401 online questionnaires collected by users with no more than three months of ELS experience and causal relationships were analyzed using the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) technique. The study found that promotion (PROM), Content Quality (CTQ) and Content Valence (CTV) played a crucial role in driving viewer interest in booking through hotel live-streaming (HLS). Viewers with the Extraversion personality type (EXT) show interest in booking accommodations through the hotel e-commerce live streaming platform. Financial and privacy concerns influence the assessment of payment options. In addition, finances and dissatisfaction are essential factors that encourage viewers to hesitate to pay after booking. This study is crucial for applying ELS in the tourism and hospitality industry to create new travel experiences post-COVID-19.
